The Council's Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2007 is presented to Philip Lynch,
Chairman & CEO of One51 plc, one of Ireland's leading energy and waste infrastructure
companies.
The Council's members and directors are delighted to formally recognize the enormous
contribution made by Philip Lynch to the building of connections between Ireland
and the United States. Through his corporate leadership, Irish investment in America
has flourished.
Furthermore, the social bonds between our two countries have been greatly enhanced
by his philanthropic efforts as Chairman of the Irish branch of The First Tee. This
worthy and excellent American charity aims to positively impact the lives of young
people by promoting character development and life-enhancing values through the
game of golf.
Over the past two years, One51 plc has become one of the most dynamic companies
in the 'green' sector with a capital value of $1.5 billion. Philip Lynch was Group
Managing Director, and later Chairman, of the IAWS, a major Irish-based international
food and agribusiness group. During his tenure, the company grew from $85 million
in annual sales to $2 billion. He engineered a series of U.S. acquisitions by the
Irish company, building a significant presence in America.
The IAWS acquired such iconic American brands as La Brea Bakery and introduced to
the U.S. Chicago-based Cuisine de France, also in the bakery and confectionery industry.
Last year, the company invested over $350 million to acquire Otis Spunkmeyer Holdings,
a leading U.S. specialty-baked goods company.
Mr. Lynch serves as a non-executive Director of C&C Group plc, Coillte Teoranta,
FBD Holdings plc, and TechRec Ireland Ltd.
Mr. Lynch has also served, having been nominated by the Irish Government, as Chairman
of a number of State-owned companies including An Post, An Bord Bia and the Dun
Laoghaire Harbour Company. He has been appointed Chairman of the Development Board
for the planned National Paediatric Hospital in Dublin by Ireland's Minister for
Health.
A native of Innishannon, Co. Cork, he was educated at Hamilton High School, Copsewood
College and Waterford Institute of Technology.
Philip Lynch and his wife, Eileen, have four adult children and live in Co. Kildare
.
Philip Lynch has made a most significant contribution to the advancement of Irish-American
business links. Furthermore, given that his business interests and directorships
extend across a range of major growth sectors including energy, healthcare, food
and financial services, it is most likely that new relationships and joint ventures
will be forged in the years ahead in the United States.
